@polychrome Oh I remember having my face irradiated as a kid when my grandparents took me on a cruise ship that had “leaky” TV sets with Nintendo consoles hooked up. Took us a while to figure out that nope, that’s probably not sunburn 😳
@lachs0r oh that *can't* be good
@alexis @polychrome To be honest though I’m a little disappointed that CRTs as PC monitors died so quickly even though LCDs were (and mostly still are) terrible. IIRC there were some promising/crazy ideas involving arrays of many tiny tubes making up a flat, high-res screen, as well as digital displays and improved energy efficiency. Would have been interesting to see them implemented.
@lachs0r @alexis I still like the feel of CRT better than LCD to this day despite the widescreen and increased resolution. The color is just better as well as the "feel" of the pixels, they just seem sharper somehow.
The only display that gives me a feel close to CRT is Samsung's AMOLED displays which gives me hope for the future, especially with Quantum Dot displays now being a thing.
As for LCD types, kinda bad how only one single vendor really makes AMVA+ panels (and not particularly good ones). I have a feeling the tech could be much better than IPS. Sort of a middle ground between that and OLED/CRT, with good contrast (one of my displays gets 3000:1 with very dark black point; most IPS panels can barely do 1000:1).
masto instance for the tildeverse
