coinbros doing a stupid, hilarious

Cryptobros win an auction for Jodorowsky's "Dune" concept art compendium in book form:
nitter.net/garybrannan/status/

They paid ~100Γ— the estimated price. And they think buying this book gives them the necessary rights to make a series based on it. 🀣

I mean, shouldn't NFT bros know everything about copyright and imaginary property?

I cannot stop laughing.

SCRATCH THAT, I KNEW THAT IT WAS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

github.com/denoland/rusty_v8/i
it doesn't support musl for literally no fucking reason.hahaahaaaaaa thanks for lifting my hopes up just to crush them

I'm seriously having a hard time accepting that this is true, that there's a big project out there which actually gives a fuck about security.

Up until now every time I wanted to do something not covered by my stdlib, I spent a lot of time trying to find the least shady library, and ultimately still had to take the risk of getting ratted/ransomwared/fucking whatever. I can't believe that I finally don't have to do that.

(It still sucks that on all "modern" OSes I have to give deno full access to everything anyways. It's even worse when you notice how gigantic its dependency tree is. Still, it's a step in the right direction.)

Show thread

I just found out that deno.land has fully sandboxed packages. I'm so fucking amazed.

Not having to trust every contributor of every package you have ever used not to install malware on your PC? What is this, a reasonable world?

idea for an unaddictive activity pub client:
Instead of a feed of updates, you have a tree. You see a list of everyone who has posted in a given day, and you can unfold to see all their posts.

it's a shame i'm too dumb to implement that

"My first impressions of web3" by Moxie Marlinspike moxie.org/2022/01/07/web3-firs

Really hits the nail on the head IMO. A good follow-up to Laurie Voss's recent piece: seldo.com/posts/crypto-the-goo

i wonder how many of the people who "don't care" about the climate crisis are actually people who care but have abandoned all hope of cooperation

Our brains literally evolved to NOT pay attention to boring stuff

We are forced to do boring things because that keeps other folks wealthy

The reason why you want to do hobbies all day is that you were supposed to be an artisan

Artisans were once seen to be the clearest sign of civilisation, not a burden

We have enough food now that all humanity could master the lyre

But we have chosen coin

and coin does not sing

i'm seriously just probably going to sleep through the next new year's. i want to wake up well rested for the new year

@neauoire I don't think that I could add post bodies without sacrificing simplicity - I'd probably need to abandon the line-based format.

And it's not like you need that to create a client which downloads items for offline reading. In fact I think that'll be my next ass project, so thanks for the idea ^^

Apparently the mailing list (and a bunch of other stuff) is offline, maybe permanently
