Pretty much everyone has inner speech, but I wonder if anyone really does inner writing? I mean, mostly if I say I'm working on writing "in my head" I'm really just talking about going over words I might write *as inner speech* to see how I like the wording before actually writing it down. I mean, I take it for granted that I can and do "talk to myself" and this speaking occurs silently, inside my head, without moving my lips. But I wasn't born knowing language, so presumably I taught myself this inner speaking. My question really is: could I do the same thing with written language -- could I perform it as an entirely internal symbolic thinking activity? What is the inner speech of people born without hearing like?
