Computer Science towards sustainable permacomputing
"Unrealistic" "People wont want that" "Too many assumptions about the future"

Computer Science which assumes everyone lives in VR in the future
"Visionary" "Futuristic"

@zweiblatt tfw no buddies to sing cellular automata with

@zweiblatt i'd really much want to not need to buy new computers every few years

@zweiblatt Honestly we /really/ wanna live in VR in the future, but not corporate hellscape VR world.

@zweiblatt And it's mostly for dysphoria reasons, which I bet they'd be baffled by!

@IceWolf that would certainly be one of the good uses of VR :)

and believe me. the people who i made this in reference to would certainly be baffled as heck :awoo_pixel_rainbow:

@zweiblatt The implied assumption is that sustainable permaculture is somehow an undesirable outcome when in fact the complete opposite is true. To paraphrase from something I once read, there are only two possible ways to make any given kind of system: survivable or ephemeral.

@zweiblatt I see some of this myself!

When it comes to computers most people are very shallow, they only know what it can do not how efficiently it can do them. It's too abstract. Which is absolutely fair enough & I'd have it no other way, they have their own things going on!

But it does frustrate me in building lightweight web browsers & GIS software.
